We are only a stone’s throw from another, much larger retirement community. We have never regarded ourselves as competitors because our operating models are very different. Due to their size our neighbour has a higher budget for entertainment – and it was this that interested us. They provide a facility whereby friends and family members may enrol for a fee, granting them access to all scheme activities at the same discounted rate as residents.
Our Owners are now able to join in with all scheduled events and activities without having to purchase a property in a much larger community. Our long-term goal is to enable friendships to be made between the two communities and to invite our new friends to some of our more intimate events.
Gary Baxter, Court Manager
We arranged a meeting with the activities coordinator to ask whether it would be possible to purchase several memberships that could be shared among our Owners. At first, this idea was not accepted by the decision-makers. However, after much effort and constructive negotiation on both sides, we were able to reach an agreement.
