Ashby Court “Birthday” and Platinum Jubilee Celebration – 4th June

Image

The party to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of our foundation, due in Summer 2020, fell victim to Covid lockdown.  As this still applied in 2021 we decided to hold the party in 2022 and also to combine it with Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.  So the date chosen was June 4th and prudence dictated the hire of a marquee which was placed in our Car Park. All owners were invited and we were encouraged to invite guests.

The celebration started at 1.30 for early arrivals with games, Splat the Rat, Quoits and The Key Game. There was also a demonstration of Penny Farthing cycling which supported Help for Heroes.  We began to take our places ready for high tea at 3 o’clock.  All staff were present and active and everyone was heartily glad of the marquee shelter from a cold wind.  Tea was magnificent and kept on coming.  We all agreed that to provide this and serve it to over 100 people was truly remarkable.  Towards the end of the meal we had entertainment by a magician who toured the tables hiding cards, coins etc then producing them from unlikely places!

Presentations were made to Jack, celebrating 30 years as an owner and to Janet, our chef, for her magnificent efforts.  Thanks were offered to Court Manager, Ruth and her staff for all their hard work, and also to the Social Group.

After the meal some of the owners and their guests left, but many went to the lounge to be entertained by Marie, our Music Group’s singing tutor.  She had her own song programme and then invited requests.  Listening to her lovely voice was not enough and many joined in dancing to her music. At about 8.30 the formal celebration ended with the National Anthem and three cheers for the Queen.  It had been such a wonderful day that there was still a real buzz and some owners and guests stayed on for the chat.  A small group continued the musical theme with a singalong in the Conservatory.

The whole Court was still abuzz the next day and stories were being swapped, and thanks being offered again to all staff.  Many guests sent Ruth and her team appreciative messages by e-mail or card.  A thoroughly good event enjoyed by all who attended made possible by the hard work and inspiration of our staff.
